Coal Breaker Mill “Tyre” Machining, SA, Australia
In order to refurbish the Coal Breaker mill tyres, Transalign ISM used high speed milling process designed specifically to mill large diameter peripheral surfaces minimising time required for stock removal and linishing only to achieve an accurate surface.
Transalign ISM was approached by Flinders Power Partnership at the Leigh Creek Coal processing facility to carry out refurbishment of Coal Breaker mill tyres. These tyres of approximately 3.2 metres are the steel rims that the breaker mill revolves on supported by four rims mounted on the frame.
Over a period of several years running the steel tyre surfaces had become corrugated and worn out of round. There were reasonably signification variations in depth so the standard method of linishing would have required many down-time days and consumable cost to carry out the refurbishment by linishing only.
Transalign ISM utilised a previously developed high speed milling process designed specifically to mill large diameter peripheral surfaces minimising time required for stock removal to achieve an accurate surface. The process was then finished off with linishing to achieve the required surface finish. Transalign ISM personnel worked in very hot conditions to achieve the required result for the client.
