North Parkes Mine, NSW, Australia
Re-surfacing was required on a circular surface of approximately 2m diameter on a vertical plane by circular milling of a 150mm wide mounting surface. The successful machining process was completed and the Mill Trunnion was re-installed with minimum down time loss.
A call from a F.L. Smidth representative during a shut-down at Rio Tinto North Parkes Mine requesting urgent attention to facing of the Trunnion mounting surfaces on a mill head end. After consideration of an offer from Transalign ISM and another company the client decided that Transalign ISM was the best option for a successful outcome.
Within 26 hours the required equipment and experienced personnel were mobilised to North Parkes to engage in inductions and familiarisation to the equipment. A circular milling machine was installed onto the head end mounting surface and a hydraulic milling head with a 200mm multi tip cutter was utilised to re-mill the mounting surface in 36 hours.
